100th day of school can be fun, but some struggle with what to do if your students have mastered counting to 100. Here are some ideas!
100 Math Problems Hunt!
I typed out 100 math problems and taped them all over the room.
I put my students into 5 teams. The goal is to get as many math problems solved before the 100 problems runs out!
The peach colored ones are math facts, and the green ones would require scratch paper.
Rules of the game:
The peach colored ones are math facts, and the green ones would require scratch paper.
Rules of the game:
- You may only get 2 problems at a time.
- You may not get more problems until those 2 are solved.
- Each group needs to stay in their 'headquarters' unless a runner is going to get some more problems.
- Take turns being the runner to get more problems.
- Peach problems are 1 point, and green ones are worth 2.
- The game ends when all 100 problems are solved.
Later while the kids were gone to art, I looked at each team's sheet to see who won! Some teams were in a hurry and got some wrong, and a few problems were blank. Blank and incorrect = 0 points! Some students went for more easier (peach) problems, and some went for less more difficult ones.
Writing 'When I am 100 years old...'
To prep for this writing activity I downloaded the FREE app 'aging booth'. I took each child's picture are 'aged' it, then emailed it to myself. Later I pulled my email up on the smart board and gasped "I got some emails from the future!! This is what you are going to look like when you are 100 years old!" The kids all screamed and laughed at every picture. I then modeled a writing piece about how we are going to be at 100. They all turned out pretty cute! |
'When I'm 100 years old I will have a pet donky. His name is Big Dood. I will live in a barn. I will merry Martin Luther King.'
/When I'm one hundred I will be married and if we break up I have a back-up. Don't care where I live. I might have kids. My favorite thing to do is hunting. But if I don't get lucky I might even die on my 100th birthday. Speaking of dining do you think I should have them burn my body to ashes or the thing were they put the dead body in the casket? I might even live with Piper if I live to one hundred. Wanta know more? Well I am going to read a lot, just like now.'
100th Day Snack & Flag
In the past we have had each student bring 100 snacks (skittles, popcorn, goldfish, something) But it got to be too much work. So now I just spell out the number with cookies. Much easier!
